Of all of the beasts and creatures that were brought to life by The Lord of the Rings movies, none is more impressive than the Balrog. 

The challenge of bringing this partially incorporated demon to life was making it seem like it was not fully solid. 

The solution was to paint it as if it was barely cooled magma, glowing hot, and still visible through the cracks in the skull. Feel the Heat!
